Corsham’s arts centre, The Pound, reports that a dramatic production specially created for a select audience of disabled young people is to be staged in May, thanks to the support of Cotswold Homes.

The firm which is building more than 60 homes at Corsham Rise, a greenfield site with south-facing countryside views on Potley Lane, has stepped in with funding which will ensure that an audience of teenagers with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) can attend, accompanied by their carers, to see the multi-sensory show Home. The housebuilder is paying for their tickets. 

‘Multi-sensory theatre is interactive and created to meet the special needs of the audience while producing a piece of high quality entertaining theatre,’ explains The Pound’s deputy director Sophie Moysey. ‘Each part of the show has a sensory element so that individual audience members can explore sound, taste, smell and touch, taking the time they need to do so.’

Cotswold Homes is also contributing towards the performance fee charged by the group putting on the show, Norfolk-based Frozen Light, which specialises in creating multi-sensory theatre.

Home has been developed specifically for audiences with PMLD. Some will have complex and profound disabilities. Others may have associated communication and behavioural difficulties.

‘Cotswold Homes’ support is very welcome as local schools with PMLD teenagers have very limited budgets for outside trips,’ said Sophie. ‘They would not be able to access professional performances without support like this.’

Additional tickets for Home priced at £10 will go on sale to the general public for the shows at 11 am and 1.30 pm on May 19.
