A Thornbury-based charity dedicated to providing support for anyone affected by any type of brain tumour is the latest to benefit from sponsorship support by the South Gloucestershire housebuilder Cotswold Homes Ltd.

Currently the firm is building two-bedroom bungalows and three- and four-bedroom high-specification detached homes just minutes away in Tytherington where almost half of the new properties in the first phase of The Paddocks development are already sold.

Brain Tumour Support (BTS) – which assists patients, their families and carers – provides a mix of specialist counselling and tailored services. They include assistance in person, online and by telephone provided through a support team which includes nine regional BTS workers. They also facilitate 23 support groups which meet on a monthly basis across the country.

The charity’s founder, Tina Mitchell Skinner, reports that more than 100,000 people in the UK currently are living with a brain tumour.

‘The effects of a brain tumour diagnosis can be devastating to the patients and everyone around them,’ she says. ‘On behalf of all the patients and families we support, we say a big thank you to Cotswold Homes for the firm’s generous £1,000 donation. It will be used to help to fund a Regional Support Group meeting as well as information packs for newly-diagnosed patients.’

Volunteers working with the charity recently received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.

BTS is the latest charity to be assisted by Cotswold Homes in recent months. Others have included Jessie May, a charity which provides hospice-at-home care for terminally ill children, and Macmillan Cancer Support.
