The Local Area

Corsham, approximately 20 minutes from Bath, sits on the edge of the Cotswolds with a history intertwined with stone and wool; stone from the famous Bath stone quarried locally and utilised in many of the town’s buildings, wool from the Flemish weavers who based themselves in the town. The beautiful High Street has been part of film and TV sets over many years. Poldark and The Suspicions of Mr Whicher have been filmed here, as have The Remains of the Day, Barry Lyndon, Larkrise to Candleford and, most recently, Sky One’s Agatha Raisin captured the beauty of Corsham on camera. Corsham Court (most famous for its free roaming peacocks!) is a Saxon royal manor house and home to a collection of celebrated paintings housed in a picture gallery designed by Capability Brown, who also designed the gardens. The glorious parkland that surrounds the Court, with its 13-acre lake, is perfect for an early-morning walk. Corsham is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by quintessential English countryside plus chocolate box villages and towns such as Lacock, Hartham Park, Castle Combe and Bradford-On-Avon.
